So many cleaners are missing out on business because they are charging too much. Yes, I said it. The guy who always says you should raise your prices just said that maybe you’re charging too much.

Let me explain

I run a Facebook group called Airbnb Cleaners Only - Growth Hacks. In this group, I post jobs for STR cleaners. Hosts use our platform (samedayturn.com) to post cleaning jobs available and we help connect them with cleaners. The host sets the price and we help find the cleaners.

This week I posted several jobs (Las Vegas, Philadelphia, San Jose, Houston, etc.) in the group and many cleaners applied. However, some did not and cited the pay as the main issue.

“That pay is too low.” “That’s not worth it to me” etc.

Here’s the issue. If you’re a cleaner and have an empty calendar, you’re overpriced. If you’re valuing your time at $40/hr or $50/hr and your calendar is empty, you’re delusional. You’re not worth that much. You might think you’re worth that amount, but your potential customers don’t.

You have two options:

  1. Lower your price to land more customers

  2. Increase your value with additional services

My preference is option #2. I want to be the most expensive cleaning service in the area but that also means I need to perform like it and offer services that justify my high prices.

Saying “I’m the best” doesn’t cut it. Prove it.

So if you see a job post and think “That’s too low for me” my question for you is: what else are you doing with your time? Do you have other work you could be doing at that time for a higher rate? If so, then you’re correct, it’s not worth your time. But if your calendar is empty, then you’re wrong and something is better than nothing.

Your empty calendar is a signal. Listen to it.

The only time you should consider raising your prices is if you are in such high demand that you cannot take on any more clients, then you are justified in raising your prices. Until that happens, take every job you can get or fill your time with activities that pay a higher rate than the job you’re turning down.

P.S. if you are looking to hire more cleaners or if you’re a cleaner looking to get more jobs check out www.samedayturn.com

Until next time!
